This wonderful building site nestled on a ravine in Highland Park remained empty for years because of its challenging topography. I designed this custom home as a composition of smaller structures to fit the unique, undulating shape of the table land.

The bedrooms, kitchen, family room, and garage are enclosed in traditional brick, pitched-roof structures. The living room and dining room are contained within the modern, glass and steel flat-roofed structures. The traditional forms address contextuality within the residential North Shore neighborhood while the composition is a fresh, contemporary ensemble. Passing from the more sheltered structures into the glass and steel spaces is designed to feel like stepping outdoors into the ravine.
